"You may Delay but time will NOT" - Benjamin Franklin
If you are currently preparing for National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) but are not sure whether to take it in October or January, October is your time to take it.
Why? The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) changes the content outline every 5 years and January 2018 is the time when new content outline will be effective. It is critical to align your studies with FSBPT’s content outline while preparing for NPTE. While the total number of questions will remain the same, there are some key changes in the NPTE syllabus, which can influence your preparation and score.
The main changes in 2018 content outline are summarized below:
The Lymphatic system which was earlier a part of Cardiopulmonary will be a separate section now. It will have 3-8 questions as per new content outline and cardiopulmonary will have 23-28 instead of 33 questions.
The number of questions in System Interactions section will also go up from 7 to 8-12. All system interaction questions will come from the ‘Foundation for Evaluation and Differential Diagnosis’ content area.
The Gastrointestinal system content will increase and have up to 7 questions while the number of questions from Endocrine system will decrease.
Please read the new content outline 2018 table below for a detail breakdown of each body system.(https://www.fsbpt.org/Portals/0/documents/free-resources/ContentOutline_2018PTT_20170126.pdf)
These changes may seem minor, but they are significant enough to make an impact on your NPTE preparation. For example, those students have never focused on lymphatic system in PT curriculum will have to spend extra time to learn the lymphatic system.
While there are numerous NPTE review books out in the market, the 2018 editions will not be released until October 2017, leaving very little time to review the new topics prior to January 2018. Our Conclusion? If you are already preparing for NPTE, Don’t delay. We would encourage you to take it in October 2017 (especially if this is your repeat attempt).
